My focus in editing is to find your voice and make it shine in your writing. I want your prose to be clear and linear, your tenses to match, and your grammar to be correct, and I will help you make that happen. Communication in this process is essential, which is why I not only track changes in your document, but I also add a comment on why I think a change is needed.

LINE EDITING: Structural editing - writing style and voice, removing awkward phrasing and unnecessary repetition, clarifying dialogue.
COPY EDITING: Grammatical editing - tense accuracy and consistency; an overall polishing.
PROOFREADING: The final step - a focus on spelling, punctuation, and general “cleanliness” of the text.

I am Lida Sophia Townsley, a lover of books and voracious reader who has turned that passion into a career in copy editing. I am precise, dedicated, and professional, and I love to help authors find the “flow” of their work.
The primary genres with which I work are fantasy, cosy mysteries, and literary fiction.
Having lived in four different countries, my background is very international and I have edited academic works written in English by non-native English speakers, as well as manuscripts by native English speakers from the US, UK, and Australia.
Beyond editing, I have practical experience in a variety of settings, from customer service and back office administration to university theatre and volunteer outreach. Also, I have a background in teaching, which has helped to develop my skills in explaining ideas and information in a way they can be understood by people who think or process information differently, or who just have a different starting viewpoint on a work which is being edited.
